Sensitivity to White Matter fMRI Activation Increases with Field Strength
Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) activation in white matter is controversial. Given that many of the studies that report fMRI activation in white matter used high field MRI systems, we investigated the field strength dependence of sensitivity to white matter fMRI activation. In addition, we evaluated the temporal signal to noise ratio (tSNR) of the different tissue types as a functi...
متن کاملHeadache and CNS white matter abnormalities associated with gluten sensitivity.
The authors describe 10 patients with gluten sensitivity and abnormal MRI. All experienced episodic headache, six had unsteadiness, and four had gait ataxia. MRI abnormalities varied from confluent areas of high signal throughout the white matter to foci of high signal scattered in both hemispheres. Symptomatic response to gluten-free diet was seen in nine patients.
متن کاملMemory Strength Effects in fMRI Studies: A Matter of Confidence
To investigate potentially dissociable recognition memory responses in the hippocampus and perirhinal cortex, fMRI studies have often used confidence ratings as an index of memory strength. Confidence ratings, although correlated with memory strength, also reflect sources of variability, including task-irrelevant item effects and differences both within and across individuals in terms of applyi...
متن کاملWhite matter fMRI: Exploring functional differentiation in the corpus callosum
Introduction White matter fMRI is a controversial idea. To date, the majority of fMRI studies have focused on gray matter, largely for two reasons: 1) cerebral blood flow/volume is reduced in white matter relative to gray matter (e.g., [1, 2]); and 2) post-synaptic potentials are thought to be the primary source of the signal measured in fMRI (e.g., [3]). Despite this, a growing number of studi...
متن کاملComplex-valued time-series correlation increases sensitivity in FMRI analysis.
PURPOSE To develop a linear matrix representation of correlation between complex-valued (CV) time-series in the temporal Fourier frequency domain, and demonstrate its increased sensitivity over correlation between magnitude-only (MO) time-series in functional MRI (fMRI) analysis. MATERIALS AND METHODS The standard in fMRI is to discard the phase before the statistical analysis of the data, de...
